Alfio Giuseppe Reitano

June 27, 1970 — August 8, 2023

Highland, Michigan

Alfio Giuseppe Reitano, affectionately known as A.J., passed away on August 8, 2023, at the age of 53. Surrounded by his loving family, he left this world at Henry Ford Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness.

A.J. was born on June 27, 1970, in Catania Sicily. At the tender age of 9, he embarked on a new chapter in his life when he moved to New Hampshire with his parents, Sylvia and Joseph Reitano. A.J.'s journey led him to serve in the US Navy from 1988 to 1992 at Selfridge Air Field Base in Harrison Township, MI. Even after his active service ended, he remained dedicated to the Navy's cause as part of the reserves until 1995.

For more than 27 years, A.J. was employed at Stelantis (Chrysler) as a Skilled Trades Electrician. His time there allowed him to forge lasting friendships and establish himself as a respected professional. A.J.'s commitment and dedication were evident in every endeavor he undertook.

Beyond his professional achievements, A.J.'s life was filled with joy and shared experiences alongside his beloved wife Catherine (Kathie). They enjoyed countless vacations on the idyllic islands of Hawaii. With radiant smiles and hearts full of love, A.J. and Kathie dreamed of one day retiring on their favorite island, Kauai. Fascinated by the Hawaiian culture and language, A.J. took it upon himself to become an expert in all things related to the islands. His knowledge extended beyond Kauai to Oahu and even parts of Maui.

A sanctuary nestled near Leonard Lake became a tranquil haven where A.J.'s love for nature blossomed. He could often be found alongside Kathie on their pontoon boat cruising along the peaceful waters, or on their deck, nurturing their extended family of waterfowl, birds, squirrels, and many other small animals. Each creature held a special place in A.J.'s heart, affectionately given nicknames that only he knew. The calming melodies of Hawaiian music would gently fill the air as he embraced the serenity of these precious moments.

A.J.'s diverse interests reflected his zest for life. Music captivated him; its rhythm and melody speaking to his soul. Additionally, he possessed a keen talent for target shooting, a passion that allowed him moments of focus and tranquility. Traveling also delighted him as he eagerly explored new places and cultures. However, above all else, A.J.'s deepest love was reserved for his family.

A devoted husband to Kathie, A.J. demonstrated unwavering support and unwavering love throughout the years. His children, Krissa and Jason, were the pride and joy of his life. He cherished each moment spent with them, nurturing their dreams and offering invaluable advice. As time passed, A.J.'s family expanded to include his grandchildren: Amber, Jason (Ace), Dominique, and Bruce. Furthermore, he celebrated the arrival of his great-grandchildren: Skylar, Ryder, and Cameron. A.J.'s unconditional love extended beyond his immediate family; he embraced his cousins as treasured friends. AJ was a loving son in law of Jack and Sophia Palmer. A grandson of the late of Moody & Elnora Steele and the late Alfio & Giuseppina Reitano. AJ is also the brother of Eleanora Reitano and brother in law of Michael Palmer. He will be greatly missed by all family and friends.

The impact of A.J.'s radiant spirit stretched far and wide. Those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him will never forget his guidance and strength of character. His warm smile could light up any room while his gentle kindness left an indelible mark on every heart he touched.

In honor of A.J.'s extraordinary life, a Memorial Service and luncheon will be held on August 20th at 2:00 pm at Sharks Club located at 6665 Highland Rd., Waterford MI 48327. Please RSVP by text to 586-201-2198.

As we bid farewell to A.J., let us remember the joy he brought, the love he shared, and the memories that will forever be etched in our hearts. May his spirit continue to shine brightly within us, guiding us along life's winding path. A.J.'s legacy of love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, forever reminding us of the preciousness of every moment.

"I'll see you in my dreams, walking hand in hand, on a white sandy beach of Hawaii."
