Chester Augustine Gay

Chester Augustine (Gasiorowski) Gay, lovingly known as Chet or Butchie, passed away peacefully the morning of July 12, 2023 at the age of 80. He was born on July 7, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Chester Sr. and Stephanie Gay.

Chester grew up in Detroit and developed a passion for automotive mechanics from a young age. He owned Chester & Sons Service Station on E. Grand Blvd., where he served as the head mechanic. Prior to that, he and his father operated a station on Chene St. Chester's expertise and dedication made him well-respected in his community.

In 1974, Chester married the love of his life, Kasimiera (Kathy), and they embarked on a beautiful journey together. They shared an unbreakable bond filled with love and mutual support. Chester cherished Kathy more than anything else in the world and their marriage was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Chester was a family-oriented man who always found joy in spending time with his loved ones. He had a knack for bringing people together and loved hosting parties for family and friends. A true grill master, Chester's BBQ skills were legendary, especially when it came to his mouthwatering baked beans. His warm smile and welcoming nature made everyone feel appreciated and at home.

Beyond his passion for automotive mechanics and connecting with others, Chester had many hobbies that filled his life with happiness. He was an avid collector of NASCAR memorabilia, finding joy in each new addition to his collection. Additionally, he had a love for Lionel trains, model cars,and trucks, delighting in learning about their intricacies.

In his younger years, Chester enjoyed exploring the great outdoors through fishing trips and camping adventures. These experiences allowed him to connect with nature while creating lasting memories with loved ones.

Chester leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; sons Tim and Jason; daughter Jaclyn and her husband Eddie; grandchildren Tyler, Kaitlyn, Alexis, Zaiden, Kazimeria, and Krzysztof; brothers Jerry and Steve along with their spouses Chris and Bonnie respectively; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Chester Gay Sr., his mother Stephanie Gay, and his brother Ron Gay. Although grief may fill our hearts at this time of loss, we find solace in knowing that Chester's spirit lives on through the memories we hold dear.

To honor and celebrate the life of Chester Augustine Gay, a memorial service will be held at a later date. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family members, friends, and acquaintances to come together to share stories, laughter, and tears as they pay tribute to a remarkable individual who touched the lives of so many.
