Constance Jane Hicks, born on November 28, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, cherished for her loving spirit and creative talents.
Constance began her career shortly after high school at the Detroit Tank Arsenal, where she developed a strong work ethic that would guide her through various professional roles. In the 1970s, she worked at Robert Hall and WoolWorth, and in the 1980s, she continued her journey at the IRS Data Center until her retirement in 1995.
Beyond her career, Constance had a passion for life that shone through her hobbies and interests. She was an accomplished crochet artist, known for her generous spirit in making numerous Good Fellow dolls outfits for Christmas, as well as beautiful afghans and baby outfits. Her love for bowling was evident as she actively participated in a league until just two years prior to her passing. Constance also enjoyed puzzles and card games and was known for her delightful cooking.
She is survived by her loving children, Barbara Hicks, Francis Hicks, Marilyn (Douglas) Rogez, Patricia (Brian) Bardy, Dennis (Beth Bulchak) Hicks, and Richard Hicks. Her legacy will also live on through her beloved grandchildren, Mark Reuber, Samantha (Stephen) Guenther, Barry Foster, Duane Foster, Melissa Reuber, Kadeem Boubacer, Brianna Ziesmer, and Victoria Rogez. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Michael Grover and Richard Beuber, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Constance was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Lottie (Jazdyk) Szynkowski, and her siblings, Francis Szynkowski Jr., Elizabeth (Betty) (Don) Hartlage, Phyllis Thornsbury, and Teresa Balice. She was formerly married to Philip Hicks from 1959 until their divorce in 1978.
A memorial service to honor Constance Jane Hicks will be held on July 18, 2025, at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. The service will commence at 11:00 AM, with a lunch following at 1 PM. Her family invites all who knew and loved Constance to join them in celebrating her remarkable life and the profound impact she had on all around her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.
