Daniel Mark Lava, lovingly known as "Coach," was born on November 16th, 1965. It is with heavy hearts that we announce his sudden passing on July 3rd, 2023. Dan's life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to youth sports and his exceptional coaching abilities.
Dan grew up in Warren, Michigan, and graduated from Warren Mott High School. He further pursued his education at Oklahoma State University, laying the foundation for a remarkable career in the field he loved deeply. For over 30 years, Dan devoted his time and efforts to various youth sports organizations, including Roseville Jr Sports and the Oakland-Macomb Youth Football Association.
His tireless commitment and love for the game of football earned him the utmost respect from his players and fellow coaches alike. Dan's contagious passion for the sport was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working with him. To every individual he coached, he was simply known as "Coach."
Beyond the football field, Dan cherished being out on the water. Whether it was sailing in the Mackinac Races or spending leisurely moments on any boat he could find, he found solace in the serenity of the waves. Not only was he a skilled coach and sailor, but he possessed an impressive array of practical skills as well. The community knew they could count on him for help with anything from fixing cars to boats to houses - there seemed to be no problem too big or small for Dan to tackle.
Dan is survived by his adoring wife Rikki, sister Anna (Michael), and his children Amanda, Tanya (Adriane), Brandi (Rick), Chris (Nichole), Casey (Katie). His memory will forever live on through his grandchildren Mathew, Brooklyn, Maddi, Thomas, Max, Tyler, Claire, Jake, Josh, Ava, Callie, Kayden. His life long best friend, Pav, was always by his side, providing unwavering support and companionship.
Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, Anthony and Ida. Their influence undoubtedly played an instrumental role in shaping the exceptional man Dan became.
A celebration of Dan's extraordinary life will be held on July 16th, 2023, from 2pm to 6pm at Roseville Jr Sports located at 29700 Pinehurst, Roseville, MI 48066. This gathering will serve as an opportunity for family, friends, former players, and colleagues to come together and honor the profound impact Dan had on their lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Roseville Jr Sports. These contributions will enable the organization to continue its invaluable work in shaping the lives of young athletes, a cause which was close to Dan's heart.
