Derek William Ormsby

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Derek William Ormsby. Born on November 5, 1972 in Detroit, Derek passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 27, 2026 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He is survived by his mother Ellen Louise Ormsby and preceded in death by his father Terry William Ormsby.

Derek is also survived by sisters Sara (Rich) Strozewski and Christina (Donald) Ray. While there was a fair amount of sibling rivalry while younger, later years were filled with support and companionship. Derek was a caring uncle to Logan, Gavin, Peyton, Joshua, Sophia, and Madison. Their joy and accomplishments brought him happiness and he treasured the time spent together. He enjoyed spoiling them with random treats and thoughtful gifts purchased online.

Derek loved to play various musical instruments, listening to his favorite rock bands, and cooking up various concoctions in the kitchen. While he enjoyed a fulfilling career in cabinetry, his legacy is the kindness he exhibited, the laughter he shared, and the friendly nature he extended to people wherever he went.

Derek’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who loved him. Those who knew him will remember his generosity, warmth, and thoughtfulness. To honor his memory, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
