Donald Francis Martin Sr. was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who sadly left us on July 3, 2023, at the age of 85. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on January 13, 1940, in Detroit Michigan, Donald had a passion for family, faith, and service. In July 1963, he joined the United States Army and served with honor until his separation in April 1965.
Donald's greatest joy in life came from being a father to his two children, Donald Martin Jr. (Lori) and Kathleen O’Malley (Daniel). He cherished every moment spent with them and took great pride in their accomplishments.
As a proud grandfather, Donald doted on his six grandchildren: Daniel O’Malley (Kirsten), Brendan O’Malley (Nicole), Dillion O’Malley (Sera), Eileen O’Malley, Haylee Richart (Anthony), and Alison Martin. The love he showered upon them was truly immeasurable.
Further extending his legacy are his eight great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
Donald's dedication to preserving his family's history was unmatched. He devoted countless hours researching and documenting his lineage, ensuring that future generations would know and appreciate their heritage.
Outside of family, Donald found solace in working outdoors and maintaining his Catholic faith. His unwavering devotion to God was evident in every aspect of his life.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Donald's life will be held at St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church in Clinton Township on Friday, August 18th at 10 am. Following the service, military honors will be conducted to recognize Donald's dedicated service to our country.
A man of deep connections and love for those who came before him, Donald will be laid to rest next to his mother, Marie Cecelia Martin (Schneider), in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. This final resting place symbolizes the continuity of family bonds, even after death.
Donald Francis Martin Sr. has touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication. His memory will forever be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
