Frank B. Ignich, 97, passed away peacefully in his home in St. Clair Shores, MI, on September 9, 2025.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret, with whom he shared 74 years of marriage. Father of, William Ignich, Diane (Douglas) McDoniel, Marianne Maiuri, Susanne (Salvatore) DiMercurio, Jenny (Jeffrey) Gondek. Grandfather of 12, Brie (Daniel) Cischke, the late Leia McDoniel, Clara Ignich (Rodrigo) Pocasangre, Angela Maiuri, Marlena Soave, Aaron Maiuri, Salvatore (Katherine) DiMercurio, Mario (Cassandra) DiMercurio, Marina (Salvatore) Badalamenti, Jenelle (Thomas) Stanko, Jake (Casey) Gondek, Jeana (Kyle) Bindas. Great- grandfather of 13, soon to be 14, Kalie, Audrina, Gianna, Camila, Hendrix, Salvatore B., Salvatore D., Selina, Siena, Josephina, June, Gino, Agostino, and Baby Gondek on the way.
Frank was raised in Detroit by immigrant parents and grandparents who hailed from Serbia/Yugoslavia. He went to Lakeshore High School where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Margaret Kothe.
At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for 2 years which duties also involved Ariel Photography. He remained in the reserves several years after. Following his service, he enrolled in Lawrence Tech University to study Architecture. As an architect at Smith Hinchman & Grylls, Frank worked on numerous buildings in Detroit, applying his vast knowledge of construction to bring projects from drawing to reality.
Frank was a hardworking family man who dedicated his life to providing for his growing family and was immensely proud of the legacy he created. A true jack of all trades. He designed and built his home he lived in for over 60 years. He loved the game of golf, and his remarkable intelligence allowed him to create and fix anything with perfection. His daily routine was doing crypto quizzes and audio books. He shared his many life stories with a great sense of humor, wit, and perfect recollection, leaving behind a wealth of cherished memories for all his family.
A Church service will be held at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 17051 24 Mile, Macomb, MI 48042. Instate Monday, at 11:00 AM, September 15, 2025, until time of service 12:00 PM.
