Gary Gerard Huvaere, aged 64, formerly of Grosse Pointe and recently residing in Lexington, MI, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 13, 2025, surrounded by his cherished family and friends.
Born on December 16, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Hilaire “Buff” and Mary C. Huvaere. Gary dedicated 36 years to the City of Grosse Pointe, where he began his career as a part-time employee and eventually rose to become the Director of Public Service. He was recently voted into the role of trustee for Worth Township and had previously served as the president of Huronia Heights, where he lived.
Described as an “unbelievable” person, Gary was a devoted husband, a true friend, a beloved uncle, and a wonderful brother—qualities that many admired and aspired to emulate. Throughout his life, he exemplified the importance of advocating fiercely for loved ones and standing up for what truly mattered. In his younger days, Gary was passionate about motorcycling and could frequently be spotted riding his beloved Harley. He treasured moments spent with family and friends, spreading love and joy wherever he went; his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susan Huvaere; brothers Gerard Huvaere (Christine) and Gregory Huvaere (Isabella); numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; stepdaughter Erica (Nathan) Foondle; stepson Thomas Scott (Sara); and several grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for June 26th at St. Ambrose Church in Grosse Pointe Park, MI. The visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by the Mass at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to the Leukemia Research Foundation in Gary’s memory.
