Gerald Patrick Burns

Gerald Patrick Burns, born on February 2, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, departed from this life on August 2, 2025, in Shelby Township, Michigan. Jerry, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, lived a life rich in love, laughter, and passion.

After a fulfilling career, Jerry embraced retirement with a zest for life that saw him delve into his many hobbies and interests. He found great joy in music, particularly old country, and would often be found playing his guitar and singing. His love for the arts also extended to reading and playing video games, where he found both solace and excitement.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Jerry was a devoted fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers, never missing a game and always cheering passionately for his teams. He wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to sports, sharing in the victories and tribulations of his favorite teams with unwavering loyalty.

Jerry held a special pride in his Groundhog Day birthday, looking forward to celebrating this milestone, which would have marked his 70th year. To honor his memory and celebrate his life, a gathering will be held in February, reflecting the warmth and enthusiasm he brought to those around him.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Deborah Burns, along with his children, Timothy Clayton Burns and Ivy Marie Burns Gouin, who is married to Timothy Michael Gouin. Jerry was also a cherished grandfather, adored by his grandchildren, Lucien Willem Gouin and Leelan Kayin Gouin. In addition to his immediate family, Jerry is survived by his brothers, Francis Stephen Burns Jr and Daniel Michael Burns, who is married to Nancy Burns. Jerry's legacy will also live on through his stepchildren, Jennifer Marie Bowin, who is married to Ernie Smith, and Michael Robert Bowin.

Though his presence will be sorely missed, the memories of Jerry Patrick Burns will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. His joyful spirit and unwavering love for family, friends, and his passions will continue to inspire and resonate with all who knew him.
