Jeri Ann Batten, a beloved wife, mother, educator, and community leader passed away on July 2, 2024, in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Born on January 22, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, Jeri Ann touched the lives of many with her intellect, infectious laugh, and unwavering love for the Lord.
Jeri Ann's journey in life was marked by love and dedication. She and her husband Dale shared a remarkable bond for 54 years, running a successful family business and raising five children together. Known as "the Boss" and "the Soup-Man," Jeri Ann and Dale exemplified enduring love and unity. Jeri Ann's role as a mother was one of gentle guidance and unwavering support, instilling important life lessons in her children through actions more than words.
Throughout her life, Jeri Ann embraced adventure and cherished relationships above all else. Her annual camping trips to Lumberman’s Monument were a source of joy where family and friends gathered in the embrace of nature. Her ability to find beauty in the simplest things was truly remarkable; discovering a hummingbird's nest at their campsite was one of her cherished memories. Additionally, she prioritized relationships by organizing a yearly women's retreat that spanned 30 years to encourage growth and connection among friends.
In her late forties, Jeri Ann pursued further education at Wayne State University and obtained her Masters Degree in education. She channeled her passion for teaching by co-founding Charlotte Mason Community to provide quality education to children in Detroit. Her impact as an educator was profound; she nurtured a love for literature, nature, and God's creations in her students.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Jeri Ann had diverse interests that filled her life with joy. From stained-glass art to gardening, painting to cooking—her talents knew no bounds. Her culinary skills were unmatched, turning every meal into an experience to remember. Birdwatching brought her peace as she admired the Orioles and hummingbirds that frequented her garden. Music was another passion she held dear; Bruce Springsteen's "If I shall fall behind" resonated deeply with her soul.
Jeri Ann's legacy lives on through her surviving family members: husband Dale; children Andy (Kristen), Rebecca, Sharon (Brian), Philip (Lauren), and Daniel; grandchildren Drew, Jackson, Emily, Hannah, Olivia, Julia, Kara, Norah, Ashely and Lauren; brothers Greg (Judy), Mark; brother-in-law George (Claire); nieces Katie & Audrey; nephews Nicholas, Matt, Sam, and George Jr.. She is preceded in death by her Mother & Father, Mary Ann & Gerald Klepazyk, her sisters, Janet Claire, Sue & Diane (Colin), & her brother Jerry, but survived by his wife Carolyn and niece Casey.
Jeri Ann Batten will be remembered for her kindness, empathy, and unwavering faith—a true gift whose light will continue to shine bright in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she will be deeply missed by many, her memory will forever remain a beacon of love and inspiration for generations to come.
