Jerrold James McCart, affectionately known as Jerry, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, at the age of 90. Born on August 22, 1934, in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, Jerry lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service.
Jerry's early years were shaped by a profound sense of duty, leading him to serve honorably in the military. He was a proud Paratrooper and Infantryman, later taking on the important role of a Cook for the Royal Canadian Regiment with the Canadian Army’s 2nd and 3rd Battalions. His commitment to service over six years earned him several commendations, including the United Nations Service Medal, the Korea Medal, and the Peace Keeper Medal, reflecting his dedication to peace and his country.
Throughout his life, Jerry embraced a variety of hobbies that brought joy not only to himself but also to those around him. He had a talent for connecting with people, often lending his culinary skills at church events. His warmth and ability to share war stories enriched the lives of many. Jerry took delight in teaching others, fostering a spirit of community that will long be remembered by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His pride in his Scottish, Irish, and English heritage was evident, and the journey that he and his beloved wife, Roberta Marie (Read) McCart, embarked on when they moved to the United States was a significant milestone in his life. Jerry was especially proud to become a U.S. Citizen, further solidifying his commitment to his new home.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Roberta, and together they raised three children whom he adored: Timothy James Douglas McCart (Becky), Kerri Jean Marie Barr (Timothy), and Robin Jennifer Erin McCart Barr. His family was a source of immense joy, as he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren—Jennifer (Greg), Lyndsey (Andy), Kara (Tony), Josh, Erica, Lorin (Jensen), Amanda (Caleb), Jacob (Samantha), Alanna (Bryan), and Alexander (Yoshimi)—as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Pratt McCart and Henry Wilson McCart, as well as his sisters Florence, Audrey, Ann, Margie, his brother Arthur, and twin brother Harold. Their memories will forever be cherished as part of the tapestry of Jerry's life.
Jerry McCart will be remembered not only for his remarkable military service but also for his unwavering love for his family, his generosity, and the kindness he showed to all. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched.
