Jerry Elmer Dunlap

October 30, 1947 — August 27, 2025

Sterling Heights

Jerry Elmer Dunlap was born on October 30, 1947, to Elmer and Bessie Dunlap in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 34 Years, Mary Dunlap, whom he loved with enduring, unmistakable devotion. He was immensely proud of his children, Suzanne Dunlap (Mike) Zanoli, Scott (Karine) Dunlap, Crystal Steinhour and Graham (Kristi) Steinhour. His pride only deepened with his grandchildren, Emmakate Zanoli, Aryah Dunlap, Carys Kruse, and Laynie Steinhour. He never missed a chance to brag about something new they were doing or learning. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Billy, and his grandson, Nick Zanoli.

A 12+ year bilateral lung transplant survivor, Jerry was profoundly grateful for the second chance at life and lived each day to the fullest. He embraced life with humor, resilience and gratitude. He appreciated the little things – like simply breathing – and never taking a moment for granted.

His professional life began in banking and later shifted gears – quite literally – as a truck driver, a path that earned him the prestigious One Million Mile Safe Driving Award before he retired. He was an avid bowler in the 80’s where his competitive spirit shone brightly. He continued his love of bowling while working with MHSAA high school bowling program and was a Michigan High School Interscholastic Bowling Coaches Association Hall of Fame Honoree in 2010.

Jerry and Mary shared a love of travel and especially enjoyed cruising around the world together. Las Vegas held a special place in their hearts, as it was where they were married and returned to often. He loved golfing, reading, investing, sports (especially the hometown Detroit teams) and his favorite, the ISPANS Club. He never missed a chance to tease (lovingly) or share a story or two with everyone he met.

He will be remembered for his humor, courage, and a reminder to make the most of every single day.
