Roseville, Michigan

John Andrew Balkevitch, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, left this world suddenly on January 20, 2024. Born on June 16, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, John's departure was a tragic event that occurred as he valiantly attempted to save his beloved dog Lexi from a devastating house fire. John was 81 years old at the time of his passing.

John was united in marriage to Marylyn Kay Balkevitch (Leader) on November 17, 1971. The couple shared a remarkable journey together, filled with love and cherished memories. Sadly, Marylyn pre-deceased him on September 3rd, 2020. Their marriage spanned an incredible 48 years.

John and Marylyn shared many common interests; one of their favorite activities was playing golf. Both of them were exceptional golfers and proudly achieved the elusive feat of landing a hole-in-one during their lifetime. Additionally, John spent numerous years participating in bowling leagues and was esteemed for his excellence on the bowling alley. Furthermore, he served his country with honor as a proud veteran of the US Army.

John possessed an endearing personality and was well-known throughout his neighborhood for his friendly nature. His regular walks provided an opportunity for him to strike up conversations with all whom he encountered along the way. John's warm and engaging presence will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

John leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion within his family. He is survived by his daughters Stacie Krause (Anthony Krause Sr.), Kimberly Comito (Anthony Comito), and his cherished grandchildren Merissa Desrochers, Liam Krause, Mia Skye Balkevitch, Jonathan Balkevitch, Jenessa Comito, Anthony Krause Jr., and Beau Krause. John is also survived by his brothers, Bob Balkevitch and George Balkevitch (Shirley Balkevitch), along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his beloved wife Marylyn, John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Balkevitch, as well as his sister, Patricia Singer. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved them.

As a final act of togetherness, John and Marylyn will be laid to rest side by side at Great Lakes National Cemetery in April. This sacred resting place will serve as a testament to their eternal bond and enduring love.

John Andrew Balkevitch will be remembered for his kindness, bravery, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he find eternal peace in the embrace of his beloved wife Marylyn, and may their spirits shine brightly forevermore.
