John Robert Oestman

July 2, 1939 — February 14, 2022

John Robert Oestman, age 82, of Clinton Township, passed away on February 14, 2022 at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens. John was born July 2, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Charles and Florentine (nee: Hojnachi) Oestman.

John was born and raised in Detroit on Chene Street. Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in September 1956. John received an honorable discharge in September 1958. John then moved to Chicago, Illinois where he acquired an Associate of Arts degree in June of 1969 from Chicago City College. John spent the next several decades becoming an electrical expert: drawing up electrical layouts and systems for various companies, electrical estimations, and eventually reaching the title Chief Estimator.

John was an avid Detroit sports fan – always rooting for the Lions and Tigers. In his free time, he also enjoyed watching true crime shows and fixing things around the house. John's family and friends remember him as being independent and always giving a helping hand to those that needed it, as well as his sarcastic wit. John was always making friends everywhere he went and he will be truly missed. Right now, he is probably sitting at Heaven's bar telling jokes and making friends.

John was the beloved stepfather to Donald Brant, Rhonda (Henry) Ruiz, and Reena (Thomas) Fruciano-Rezepka, loving step-grandfather of Michael Dines, Angelia Erhardt, Tylre Brant, and Sierra Brant. He is also survived by his many step-nieces and nephews, and best friend since childhood, William (Tharice) Opalewski. John is preceded in death by his son Steven and his brother Frederic.

A Memorial Mass/Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Please share your memories of John at his memory book above.
