Joseph Douglass Faulkner passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020, at his home in Harrison Township, Michigan, under the care of Henry Ford Hospice. Joseph was born November 2, 1941, in Etowah, Arkansas, the son of the late Berthel A. and Lilah Mae (nee: Morris) Faulkner of Romeo.
Joseph married Ann Louise Freiberg on September 4, 1965, at Presque Isle, Michigan, who survives him. He is also survived by his son Joseph E. (Kiersten-Buddy) Faulkner and granddaughter Riley; son James D. and grandchildren Neil and Lili and their mother Susan Gabbard; brothers: John (Sharon) Faulkner and Paul (Leslie) Faulkner; and special friend Gary Gustafson.
Joe retired as Wire Room Coordinator for Michigan Rivet Corporation after 35 years of employment. Until his health failed, he was an active member of AA, and known by many as "Catfish Joe," receiving his 37-year token last July. He guided, counseled, and welcomed many struggling "brothers" into his home when they were down and out, and he would give you his last dollar if you were in need.
Joseph was an avid Tiger and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan till the end. Joe enjoyed traveling and driving throughout the United States, visiting many baseball stadiums, Renfro Valley, Kentucky, and especially Arkansas to his childhood home. Traditional country music could be heard playing on Saturday and Sunday mornings in his home, especially Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and the Grand Ole Opry.
A memorial service will be held next spring when his ashes are buried in the Presque Isle Cemetery. The family suggests that any memorial donations be directed to the Salvation Army, a local food bank, or Henry Ford Hospice.
Please share memories of Joseph at his memory book above.
