Judith (Judy) Kay Kitching, age 79, of Cottrellville, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on April 11, 2026. Born on August 9, 1946, she was the only child of the late Keith and Marion (nee Eddy) Kitching. Although an only child, growing up Judy basked in the attention and love of her many aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, and family friends.
Judy was born in Saginaw and the family resided in Snover, Michigan. She attended primary school in Sandusky and graduated from Sandusky High School in 1964. She attended college at Michigan State earning a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Education in 1973. In 1992 she earned a Paralegal Certificate. Judy worked as a legal secretary from 1978 to 1984 when she took a pension analyst role with Chrysler where she worked until she retired.
Judy had a love and talent for crafting. She dabbled in many things but loved dollmaking and costuming. Judy sewed, embroidered, tatted, crocheted, knitted, and made specialty teddy bears. She had a kiln and made her own ceramics. She studied gemology as well and designed and created jewelry pieces.
She was known as the family historian and researched and documented the family trees of both the Kitchings and the Eddys. These many documents are well preserved and it was Judy’s wish that they be donated to specific local historical societies.
Judy played the piano and sang, and did so at the wedding of her cousin Marion’s daughter, Dawn.
A lifelong lover of dogs and cats, Judy was never without at least one loyal canine and/or feline companion by her side.
She was known for her kindness and sweet disposition, and for her generous and giving nature. She went out of her way to help others, and would put a roof over the heads of many – dogs and cats included. Judy believed that, as a Christian, she should share her abundance with those less fortunate if she was at all able.
Judy Kitching will be greatly missed and remembered lovingly by her cousins David Brown, Mike Kirkpatrick, Suzette (Kirkpatrick) Taylor, Marion (Eddy) Krause, John Eddy, many other cousins and friends, and by her calico cat KiKi.
A Celebration of Judy’s life will be held in the near future, details to be shared soon.
