Lawrence Anthony Horak, affectionately known as Larry, was born on November 19, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan. He was a longtime resident of Berkley, Michigan, before retiring to New Port Richey, Florida. Larry's life journey came to a close on May 10, 2025, in Fraser, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories.
For over 30 years, Larry dedicated his professional life to Copper and Brass Sales, where he was admired not only for his work ethic but also for the kindness and respect he showed to everyone he encountered. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Larry epitomized what it meant to serve with honor and dignity.
Larry was a true man of faith, whose excellent moral character and gentle nature touched the lives of many. His unwavering faith in God was evident in the compassionate way he lived his life and the careful attention he devoted to his loved ones. Born extremely prematurely, Larry learned to appreciate life deeply, fighting valiantly through life's challenges until his last earthly breath.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Larry had a passion for sports, with hockey being his favorite. A dedicated Detroit fan, he proudly cheered for the Red Wings. He also found joy in various activities, such as bowling, billiards, fishing, golfing, and playing spades online. Larry treasured the sunny days spent in Florida, Friday night dinners with family, and attending services at Trinity New Life Church. He always enjoyed a good meal, often sharing laughter and stories with family and friends over a beer.
Larry is survived by his loving sister, Barbara Hebda (Bob) of Hudson, Florida; his devoted children, known affectionately as his “Right Hand Man” Colleen Rutila (Todd), Eric “Mama” Horak, and Christine Horak. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Anthony and Matthew Horak, and Bridget Rutila, each of whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Noreen Ann, whom he married on February 10, 1979 and is now reunited with, his parents, George L. and Stella Horak; his siblings, George L. Jr. (his wife Margaret survives him) and Kathy Horak.
A Celebration of Life honoring Larry will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11:30 AM, with services at Grace Christian Church, located at 33801 Van Dyke Ave, Sterling Heights, MI 48312. A lunch will follow at Buddy's Pizza, 8100 Old 13 Mile Rd, Warren.
