Lillian Laurine Sheedy

Jun 28, 1935 — Nov 3, 2026

Warren, Michigan

Lillian Laurine Sheedy (née Janicki) passed away peacefully on November 3, 2026. Born on June 28, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Stanley (Steve) and Gertrude Janicki, Lillian lived a life defined by music, teaching, faith, and dedicated service.

A graduate of Warren High School (1953), Lillian pursued her passion for music at Eastern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in 1957 with a focus on piano and voice. Her early career took her to Warren Consolidated Schools as a music teacher and later to kindergarten classrooms. A lifelong learner and adventurer, Lillian embarked on a memorable six-week road trip across Europe in 1964 with her beloved sister, Patricia, and friends. She went on to earn her Master of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1967 and spent two years teaching first grade for the Overseas Dependents Schools in Bremerhaven, Germany, before returning home to continue teaching in Warren.

In 1974, Lillian met the love of her life, John Carl Sheedy, at Unity Nov. 20; they were united in marriage on May 18, 1975. Together, they shared a life of varied ventures and devotion to family, including owning the Black Steer Restaurant in Flint and caring for family members in Berkley. Following her years in education, Lillian worked with Hudson’s Restaurant, Wayne Oakland Bank, and eventually spent many fulfilling years as a administrative assistant for Kelly Services at General Motors, retiring from OnStar at the Renaissance Center in Detroit.

Lillian’s deep love for music and performance remained a constant throughout her life. During her teaching years, she starred in numerous community musical productions, including The Pirates of Penzance, Guys & Dolls, My Fair Lady, and Amahl and the Night Visitors. She also lent her voice to the Rackham Symphony Choir for several years. Guided by a strong spirit, she was a dedicated attendee and volunteer at Unity Church of the Infinite Presence in Detroit and Renaissance Unity.

Lillian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, who passed away in 1998, and her parents, Stanley and Gertrude Janicki. She is survived by her loving sister, Patricia, alongside extended family, former students, and dear friends.
