Northville, Michigan

Lucy Christensen, née Heger, born on November 28, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, in Northville, Michigan. Her life spanned nearly a century of cherished memories, deep connections, and compelling laughter that resonated with all who knew her.

Lucy’s early years were shaped in Detroit, and throughout her life she exemplified warmth and joy, qualities that endeared her to family, friends, and community alike. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Christensen Sr., with whom she shared many years of love and partnership. She also endured the profound loss of her son-in-law, the late Floyd McElhenie. Lucy was the second youngest and the last surviving sibling among seven brothers and six sisters, a testament to a large and loving family heritage.

A devoted mother, Lucy is survived by her loving children: Sharon (Robert) Backus, Pam McElhenie, and Don (Patricia) Christensen Jr. She took immense pride and happiness in her role as grandmother to Christopher (Stacy) Christensen, Eric Backus, Brady (Katie) Christensen, Kevin Christensen, Ellen (Rob) Pietka, Brieanna Backus, and Anna (Mike) Danielson. Her love extended further to her great-grandchildren Owen, Ruby, Isla, Emma, and Theo, who brought light to her later years.

Lucy’s vibrant personality was warmly remembered by those at Pomeroy Senior Living, where she affectionately earned the nickname “Lucy Goosey.” A goose statue placed prominently at her apartment door symbolized the joy and laughter she shared with fellow residents and staff. Her continuous giggling and radiant laughter enriched the lives of all who crossed her path, forging a sense of family beyond bloodlines within the community.

To celebrate the remarkable life Lucy led, memorial gatherings and a celebration of life will be held on May 29, 2026, at 41415 W 9 Mile Rd, Novi, Michigan.
