Marcia Catherine White

A beautiful soul has moved on. Marcia, age 83, passed away in hospice care on September 10, 2025. She was born in Chesaning, Michigan to Ambrose (“Brooks”) and Anna Gerding on November 19, 1941.

Marcia grew up in Chesaning, where she attended and graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1959. She met her first husband (Donald Marsh) in Chesaning and started a family there. They moved to Flint, Michigan, where she continued to raise a family and worked. Her caring and compassionate nature was a great fit for her work with the Social Security Administration for over three decades, where she made a difference in the lives of many.

Marcia expressed her love for others through her words and actions. There are countless people whose lives were enriched and positively impacted by her acts of selflessness and kindness. One example is her putting her knitting and crocheting skills to good use in making hats for chemotherapy patients. As to family and loved ones, many likely still have blankets, scarves, or Christmas stockings she made with imagination, attention to detail, and, most importantly, love.

She was an amazing cook and baker, as anyone lucky enough to have had her holiday cookies, kifli, cakes, pies, and candies can attest. Being on Marcia’s Christmas cookie list was certainly a coveted spot.

She was a music lover and likely holds some sort of record for attendance at Neil Diamond concerts. She loved to travel, particularly if it was to visit with family or loved ones. She and her husband Al made several cross-country car trips, the routes of which were often dictated by the best places to see, best places to eat, and best places to find bargains on the perfect gifts for those they loved.

Marcia is survived by her brothers, Doug (wife, Mary Lou) and Greg (wife, Lynn), and sister Sally (husband, Steve); children: Jeff (wife, Julie), David, Tim (wife, Pamela), and Leigh Anne; grandchildren: Jacquelyn, Evan, Spencer, Tawney, Ken, and Drew; and great-granddaughter, Charlee; surrogate grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Al White, her beloved husband of 36 years; her son, Mark; and her sisters: Delores and Betty.

Marcia was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cousin in every best sense of those words. She lived and loved this life. She is already missed.
