Maureen (Moey) Whelan Buscemi peacefully passed away on December 17th, 2025. She was born on August 14, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, to Walter and Monica Bala. Moey was lovingly raised by her father and stepmother, Cecilia, alongside her sister Patricia Zemla and her late brother, Dennis Bala.
Moey's home was a sanctuary filled with warmth, laughter, and an enduring love for animals, boating, walking, reading, and aerobics—all passions she instilled in her daughters. While her enthusiasm for bowling was a joy to her, it is a skill that her daughters did not inherit.
As the devoted wife of Jimmy (1930-2020), Moey was a cherished mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Erin (David) Rogers, Kathleen (Bruce) Conn, and Brigid (Donald) Priemer, whom she shared with her late husband Daniel Whelan (1939-2015). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Lauren (Thomas) Osaer, Jack and Nolan Conn, Stephanie (Ben) Rogers Samoylov, and Jacob (Alexis), Kristen, and Michael Rogers. Moey also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Roman Osaer, and Emmett Rogers-Samoylov, along with several nieces and nephews.
Moey dedicated 30 years of her professional life as an executive assistant at Miller-Puthuff Co., before transitioning into retail, including her time at Macy’s and concluding her career at Carson's. Known for her commitment and dedication, Moey exemplified the values of hard work, dependability, and loyalty.
A devout Catholic, Moey attended St. Jude Elementary and Regina High School, imparting her love for faith and the church's traditions to her children.
In honor of her memory, a private funeral service will be held on a date yet to be determined. Moey's spirit and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
