Maureen D'Arcy Edens, fondly known as Marti to her loved ones, passed away on May 6, 2024, in Commerce Township, Michigan, at the age of 76. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 13, 1948, to her parents Molly and Eddie Mertz.
Marti's journey was marked by resilience and strength. She overcame numerous challenges in life - from the loss of her parents at a young age to navigating through divorce and single-handedly raising her three daughters - Staci Sadowski (Rich), Rochelle Edens (Mark), and Marlee Valitutti (Paul). Despite facing adversities, Marti always did her best to build a strong family and cherish deep friendships.
A woman of many talents and passions, Marti had a profound love for music and the arts. Her household resonated with melodies as she would often be found singing and dancing joyfully. Known for her expertise in knitting and crocheting, Marti created beautiful handmade gifts for her friends and family - from cozy baby blankets to stylish scarves and hats.
Marti's vivacious personality was characterized by her feistiness, passion, and unwavering determination. Her spirit lit up any room she entered, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In addition to her daughters, Marti is survived by her grandchildren: Noah Sadowski, Dylan Sadowski, Reed Johnson, Austin Johnson, Katie Valitutti, Reagan Valitutti, and Ben Valitutti. She was preceded in death by her mother Molly Mertz; father Eddie Mertz; sister Marie Pascoe; as well as grandsons Trevor Johnson and Evan Johnson.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on July 14, 2024, starting at 4:00 PM at Fork n' Pint on Cass Lake/Waterford in Waterford Twp., Michigan. The event will provide an opportunity for family and friends to honor Marti's memory and share stories that capture the essence of the remarkable woman she was.
Though Marti may have left this world physically, her presence will forever be felt in the hearts of those who knew her. Her legacy of resilience, love for family, and passion for life will continue to inspire generations to come. May her love in music and creativity live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
