Paul Huntley Milner

Mr. Paul Huntley “Bud” Milner, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at home in Fairhaven, Michigan.

Born on January 19, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Bud was a proud lifelong Michigander. From an early age, Bud demonstrated a strong work ethic and a deep sense of loyalty to friends and family —qualities that would define his life both personally and professionally.

Bud served honorably in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. He trained in radio teletype operations at Fort Gordon, Georgia, before being stationed overseas in Zirndorf, Germany. During his time abroad, he took every opportunity to explore western Europe, developing a love for travel and adventure that remained with him throughout his life.

Following his military service, Bud pursued a career as a journeyman plumber. He worked alongside his childhood friend Gary Johnson (now deceased) for over three decades. Together they managed numerous commercial projects across Michigan—including hospitals, office buildings, and schools—leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and dedication. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bud generously donated his time and skills to Faith Lutheran Church and to many friends and family members who benefited from his expertise.

In 1962, Bud married his teenage sweetheart Patty Purey, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 64 years. Together they raised two daughters: Diana Lynn Ginley and Carolyn Anne Gall. Bud was also a devoted brother to Mary Law, with whom he shared many cherished memories. His family grew to include five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

Bud’s zest for life was evident in everything he did. Known affectionately as the “Life of the Party,” he thrived when surrounded by loved ones—whether boating across the Great Lakes’ sparkling waters, camping along the shores of Ipperwash Beach in his travel trailer, or playing spirited games of Euchre around the kitchen table. For over twenty winters spent in Florida during retirement, Bud became something of a local legend among fellow snowbirds who eagerly awaited his return each season.

A man of deep faith and community spirit, Bud was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Shelby Township alongside Patty. He shared a close bond with Pastor Bud Miller and participated actively in church life. In 1972, he attended an ecumenical retreat through the Cursillo Movement in Detroit—a transformative experience that led to decades-long involvement with Anchor Community, a home-based support group centered on piety, study, and action.

Among Bud’s many passions was caring for his beloved 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis—affectionately known as “the Merc.” Whether polishing its chrome or taking it out for leisurely drives, the car symbolized both his pride in craftsmanship and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Bud was preceded in death by John Law, his treasured friend, mentor and brother-in-law.

Fun-loving yet hard-working; deeply faithful yet always ready with a joke or warm smile—Bud leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those whose lives he touched so deeply.
