It is with great sadness to share that Paul Harrison Smith of Eastpointe, Michigan passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025 at the age of 38. Paul was born on July 6th, 1986 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and was dearly loved by his parents Harry and Marilyn Smith, his brother Matthew Smith (Michelle Barker), and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Paul was predeceased by his loving grandparents Frederick and Shirley Damm and David and Violet Smith.
Paul always had an interest in building and construction from a very young age. As a child, he played with Tonka trucks in the sandbox, built with Lego, and even had a construction themed birthday party and dressed up as a construction worker for Halloween. After graduating high school, he tried out a few different jobs, including a tour as a vendor with Disney on Ice and a stint in the heavy equipment Operating Engineers union, before settling into a career as a carpenter. Carpentry proved to be his true talent, and he was always happy to take on side jobs big and small for friends and family in addition to the many houses he took part in building during his daily working hours.
Beyond his profession, Paul also had many hobbies that he was passionate about. Throughout his life he spent countless hours riding freestyle BMX, downhill skiing, playing his drum set, mountain biking, and playing both traditional and disc golf. He made many friends through the pursuit of his hobbies, most notably a tight knit group that was brought together through BMX in high school that remains in touch to this day. He also got to visit many parts of the United States traveling for these interests, from BMX road trips to Florida to skiing in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to disc golfing at Lake Tahoe. But of all the travel he did, his favorite place to be was at his family's getaway home in the village of Pentwater in west Michigan. The surrounding area is a haven of both traditional and disc golf courses that he loved to play with his family and friends.
Paul's family is planning a celebration of life for him in the near future, the details of which will be shared once they are finalized.
