Rita Terese Thomas

Rita Terese Thomas passed away peacefully on January 21, 2023 at the age of 70. Rita was born in Detroit, Michigan to her loving parents, Constantino and Alice (DiDomenico) Cocciolone.
Rita was raised in Madison Heights, Michigan where she attended Lamphere Highschool. She would later be recognized for her academic achievements. Rita went on to pursue a degree in The Arts at Wayne State University in Detroit, but after a couple of years, she left to start a family with her then husband, Donald Thomas.
Eventually, Rita pursued a career as a mail carrier for The United States Post Office in Mt. Clemens. She was well received by her coworkers and her customers. Everyone she touched loved her. Rita was most proud of spearheading the efforts of the yearly canned food drive that the Mt. Clemens Post Office held for the community, where thousands of pounds of food were collected for the local food banks. Rita was a humanitarian and would also go on to organize and throw charity dinners for families in need that were overwhelmed by medical expenses.
Rita, a loving mother and doting grandmother was also known for her incredible cooking skills. Her meatballs, lasagna, and lemon pepper chicken became staples in the Thomas household and she would draw crowds of friends and family for a spot at the dinner table. Rita always accepted everyone for exactly who they were. Everyone was welcome.
Rita is predeceased by her beloved parents Constantino and Alice Cocciolone along with her son, Christopher John who passed in infancy, and her brother, Ron. She is survived by her children, Donald Francis III (Quynh) Thomas, Aaron Andrew Thomas, Angela Marie (Terry) Elsey, and Christopher James Thomas along with her grandchildren, Donald Thomas IV, Kaia, and Kody Elsey. Further survivors include her siblings, Tina, John, Timothy, and Patricia.
Rita was a loving, gentle soul who devoted her time to selflessly helping others which included her four surviving children. She was admired by many and loved by each and every person she touched.
