Roger Dale Perkins, of Eastpointe, Michigan, passed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 76.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Roger served his country with honor and carried the skills he learned into civilian life. While in the service, he learned to drive a big truck—an experience that sparked a lifelong passion. He went on to spend many dedicated years hauling cars for Detroit Auto Auction, a role he deeply enjoyed and took great pride in.
Roger also had a love for antique cars and hot rods, often traveling to car shows with his best friend, Ted. He enjoyed photographing the classics, capturing their details with the same appreciation he gave to every part of life.
Another of Roger’s great joys was collecting and restoring antique baseball gloves. On weekends, he could often be found browsing flea markets, always on the lookout for a glove he hadn’t yet added to his collection.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Perkins and Lydia Maxine Perkins; his brother, Larry Perkins; and his stepson, Christian.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Maria Silvia Perkins, and his children: Jennifer Hubbard (Perkins) of Macomb, Michigan; Richard Perkins of Dumfries, Virginia; Eric Perkins of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Jamie Mills (Perkins) of Memphis, Michigan. He is also lovingly remembered by his stepchildren: Anna, Emanuel, Alma, and Bernice.
Known affectionately as “Papa” to his many grandchildren, Roger found joy in sharing life’s simple pleasures with them—offering a first sip of Pepsi or a bite of BBQ ribs, always with a warm smile and twinkle in his eye.
Roger will be laid to rest with military honors at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced on social media. The family invites all who knew and loved Roger to come together to share stories, laughter, and memories of a life lived with heart, grit, and deep devotion.
