Shara Joan Klager

Shara Joan Klager, affectionately known as “Tammy,” was born on March 22, 1948, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at her daughter's home in Clinton Township, Michigan, after a grueling battle with lung cancer.

Shara was a cherished mother, mamaw, sister, cousin, aunt, and a beloved friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She had a vibrant personality that made her unforgettable. Known for saying what she thought, her witty humor was a source of joy for many. Her most iconic feature, her hair, complemented her larger-than-life presence, which endeared her to everyone around her.

A devoted wife and an even more devoted mother, Shara always put her family first. Her love and support knew no bounds, and she was always there when needed, day or night. The Klager family fondly refers to her as having “PERSONALITY PLUS,” a fitting tribute to her dynamic spirit. She cultivated connections that left lasting impressions, and her absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew her.

Throughout her life, Shara engaged in various hobbies and interests. In her younger years, she embodied a competitive spirit, excelling in sports such as bowling and horseshoes, and even making her mark in poker games where she often gave the men a run for their money. An avid bingo player, she found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was playing handheld poker, dancing to oldies, or indulging in her unique enjoyment of watching Sponge Bob. However, nothing brought her more happiness than spending quality time with her family, which remained her greatest passion.

Shara is survived by her loving daughter, Christina Lunsford (Jerry), and her son, Steve Klager (Diane). She took immense pride in her grandchildren: Austin Lunsford, Alexis Lunsford (Jacob), Adam (Kayla) Lunsford, Marissa Klager, and Jacob Klager. Shara is also survived by her brothers, William (Nancy) McCartney and Perry (Margarita) McCartney; her sister, Tammi IaFrate (Rick); as well as many nephews, nieces, and dear friends.

Shara was predeceased by her husband, Walter Klager, and her parents, William McCartney and Reba McCartney. As we remember Shara Joan Klager, let us carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit. She will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at a later date that will be shared by Christina and Steve.
