Susan Celeste Durfee

December 6, 1949 — October 13, 2025

Washington Township, Michigan

Susan (Eckenrod) Durfee peacefully entered eternal rest on October 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 6, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, Sue was the cherished daughter of Cyril and Geraldine Eckenrod, both of whom preceded her in death.

Sue leaves behind her devoted husband, John, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years. Their love story began in their teenage years as they grew up in the same neighborhood on the east side of Detroit. Sue's strength shone brightly as she waited for John's safe return while he served in Vietnam.

She is also survived by her beloved daughter, Lynn (Tim) Mahon, and her son, David Durfee. Sue held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren: Donovan Mahon, Lorelei Mahon, Gavin Durfee, and Brooke Durfee. She cherished attending their school events, athletic competitions, and musical performances, celebrating their achievements with joy.

In addition to her immediate family, Sue is survived by her brother, John “Donny” Eckenrod, and her sisters, Sharon (Tedd) Hasouris and Kathy (Wayne) Carver. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law Mary (Frank) McKenney, Anne Durfee (the late Rick) Landon, Katie (Sarah) Rinna, and her brother-in-law Norman Durfee, as well as numerous special nieces and nephews.

Sue had a passion for exploring the beauty of Michigan, particularly the Mackinac area, where she and John created many cherished family memories while renting cottages. She also enjoyed frequent visits to Frankenmuth, delighting in shopping excursions and the renowned chicken dinners with family and friends.

A devoted sports fan, Sue enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings games alongside John.

A proud graduate of Regina High School in Harper Woods, Michigan, class of 1967, Sue was pleased that her daughter and granddaughter followed in her footsteps as alumni of the same institution.

In her spare time, Sue loved to cook and bake for her family, famously known for her chip dip. She relished reading and often swapped books with friends. A member of the St. Jude ladies bowling league, Sue also enjoyed listening to music, with Bob Seger being a longtime favorite. She could often be found watching episodes of Law & Order SVU and reruns of ER, which brought her much enjoyment.

An animal lover at heart, Sue enjoyed the companionship of her loyal dogs over the years: Cracker, Murphy, and Chance. She looks forward to reuniting with them over the Rainbow Bridge, while also relishing the company of her grand-dogs, Ellie and Bear.

A remembrance luncheon to honor Sue's life will be scheduled for a later date. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
