William Gordon Dettloff

William Gordon Dettloff of Macomb, Michigan passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 7, 2023.

 

William was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 20, 1938 to George and Cecelia Dettloff.

 

As a young boy, Billy, as he was called, loved being outside playing sports with his friends, enjoyed going to the movie theater with his siblings, and helping his dad around the house.  He was a star athlete in both baseball and football at East Detroit High School.  

 

Bill married his childhood love, Rose, in 1960 and was a devoted husband for 63 years.  Bill was a hard-working, dedicated family man and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He loved fishing, hunting and was an avid golfer who, at 84, could still shoot his age.  He lived out a lifelong dream by attending Detroit Tigers Fantasy Camp in Lakeland, Florida at the active age of 70.  Bill loved playing baseball with his Detroit Tigers heroes from the past while having his son play by his side.  

 

Bill was famous for his witty humor, attention to detail, and impeccably manicured yard.  He loved bonfires at the lake cottage and was extremely handy with DIY projects not only at home but also for anyone in need.  Bill was a loyal friend, beloved Uncle, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Father, and Husband and he will be greatly missed by all. 

 

William is survived by his wife, Rose Mary; daughter, Lisa Headen; son, Kurt (Sherri) Dettloff; grandchildren Tamara and Tanikka Headen; great grandchildren, Mylah, Serinah, Giovani, Corey, Lenah, Zari, Zaya, and Kingston; siblings, Robert Dettloff, Richard (Sharlynn) Dettloff, and Geraldine Daras; brother in law, Frank (RoseAnn) Gianferrara; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Predeceased by his father, George Dettloff; and mother, Cecelia Dettloff.

 

A funeral mass will take place Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at St. Isidore Church, 18201 23 Mile Road, Macomb, at 10:00 am. Family will accept visitors at the church beginning at 9:30 am.
